Toronto is Ontario’s capital. As well it is Canada's Commercial capital and is one of the world's top financial centres. In terms of sports, Toronto is the only Canadian city with representation in seven major league sports. It has teams in the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, Canadian Football League, Major League Soccer, Canadian Women's Hockey League and W-League. The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays are the two major sports teams. Not only are there many mining firms based in Toronto, but it is very close to many of the great mines in Ontario and Quebec. 

Toronto is home to a number of post-secondary academic institutions. This includes Ryerson, University of Toronto any many others such as Queens, which is halfway between Toronto and Ottawa, one of Canada’s other large cities.

The city is an important centre for the media, publishing, telecommunication, information technology and film production industries. This is because it is home to Bell Media, Rogers Communications, and Torstar. Other major Canadian corporations in the Toronto include Magna International, Celestica, Manulife Financial, Sun Life Financial, the Hudson's Bay Company. Toronto also is the home to major hotel companies and operators, such as Four Seasons Hotels and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Toronto is Canada's largest media market, and hosts the majority of Canada's publishing industry, which includes magazines such as Maclean's, Chatelaine, Flare, Canadian Living, Canadian Business, and Toronto Life. Toronto also has a big film industry which hosts a film Festival every year.
